The practice of yin yoga offers deep stretching of connective tissue surrounding the joints in the body. This is experienced as a healthy stress to these tissues and as such causes the body to regenerate and strengthen the connective tissues making them more resilient to injury and strain. As a passive practice, yin yoga involves variations of seated and lying down poses typically held for 3 to 5 minutes. Mindful breathing and meditation techniques are offered to help students find the ease in these longer held poses. Diana will encourage you to explore the sensations of stretch while being compassionate towards your body so that you will arrive at your comfortable edge. This practice will help strengthen your mental focus and self determination. Of all of the styles of yoga offered today, yin yoga is unique in its ability to generate prana (life force energy). Students often report feeling energized and revitalized following their practice.
Some of the benefits of yin yoga include: balancing emotions, improving flexibility, targeting deep connective tissues surrounding the joints, improving circulation, enhancing mental focus and determination, improving sleep, promoting deep relaxation, developing breath awareness, enhancing ones connection to present moment awareness, stimulating the production of energy (prana) and calming the nervous system. Yin yoga is designed to help you sit longer, and more comfortably, in meditation. At the end of the practice, students will be lead through a guided meditation promoting deep relaxation and mental clarity.

This new class series, called Yoga to Relieve Stress, will combine fully supported restorative yoga postures with breath work and meditation to help ease physical and mental tension. These classes will teach you how to calm the nervous system and relax at the end of a busy day. The perfect preparation for bedtime.
Restorative yoga uses long-held, supported resting poses to create the conditions for us to cultivate the skill of conscious relaxation and most importantly to release unnecessary habitual tension in the body and mind. It’s a little bit closer to a meditation practice than a movement practice—it’s a way of practicing “meditation” as a somatic, embodied experience. Restorative yoga helps us discover where we are holding tension. The grounding; complete, full breathing; and quietness of restorative yoga help us elicit the relaxation response, a neurological response that tells us we are safe, pulls us out of “flight or fight” mode, and initiates the body’s self-healing process.
Included in the cost to attend, an audio recording of each weeks session will be sent to participants so that they can continue the practices at home. We will also learn how to make our own bolsters (yoga cushion) using a pillow and towels or blankets that can be brought from home. Because these restorative postures require support for the full relaxing effect it will be helpful for participants to have their own bolster for use at home.
These classes are small in size and set in a the beautiful and tranquil loft space at Rideau Breeze. The perfect space to unwind after a busy day. Your investment to attend is $78.
Rideau Breeze Stable located at 906 Rideau River Road, Merrickville, ON.

Hatha Flow Classes @ KS Fitness – Linking movement to breath is one of the primary moving principles in hatha yoga. When we struggle with a busy or worried mind, often times, our thoughts are stuck ruminating on the past, or racing ahead planning our future. When we guide our awareness to the breath we are tuning into the present moment, our true reality. Students may experience this class as an extended meditation in motion. By becoming aware of the breath, while moving the body, students are learning to calm and regulate the nervous system.
